Philosophy of Using Technology in the Classroom

Technology in the classroom is a essential part of todays classroom learning environment. I don't see it being omitted in the classroom. I have noticed that during my observation and student teaching that schools do a pretty good job at integrating technology and use it as a tool when helping teachers and students work smarter. It helps the teacher share information with the students and about the students, which helps to develop all student learning. Technology is essential when it is used in a positive manner in the classroom, in other words, as educators in todays world we have to know the how, why, and when to use technology in the classroom to help our students learn. Technology is a powerful tool at our fingertips. With older students, teachers can implement technology properly and become more of an adviser rather than a direct instruction educator. Students can learn more independence through technology which can help prepare them for college or the career world at a young age. Based on my research, I have come to the realization that the use of technology in the classroom is crucial to student development and preparation for our world today, but it must be a balance between technology and instruction given directly by the teacher in the classroom. Technology has a major role in the classroom in my philosophy. Technology can be used in the classroom to help students understand concepts that are difficult when using a simple textbook. It can also provide students with many more resources than we as teachers can provide unto them, as well. Technology's role in the classroom, though, should not overcompensate the amount of instruction given to the students by the teacher. It is important for students to receive quality instruction from the teacher as well as have an abundance of student to student interaction in their educational journey. Basically, technology should not have the main teaching role within the classroom, but be a resource that students and teachers can pull from to enrich their learning experience.
